Dinner for a Small Planet with Author Frances Moore Lappé & Chef Taylor Kalasky

While John Van Hamersveld was creating album covers for the counterculture movement of the ’60s and ’70s, many started to embrace vegetarianism. Pioneering that movement was Frances Lappé who wrote the bestselling cook book, Diet for a Small Planet, which explored not only healthy eating, but also the environmental and economic impact of food production and its contributing role to world hunger.

The Westmoreland invites you to a unique vegetarian (or if you prefer, vegan) culinary experience that blends conversation with Moore Lappé and food inspired by her recipes, prepared by Chef Taylor Kalasky of Yumzio Bistro. (See below for more information about selecting the vegan dinner option.)

Enjoy a pre-dinner reception and this flavorful four course meal with Frances Moore Lappé followed by a book signing opportunity!

Menu

  • Course 1: Carrot Bisque – Sweet & savory bisque with hints of cumin and cinnamon, topped with a vegan creama and microgreens.
  • Course 2: Stuffed Pepper and Stuffed Tomato – Pepper filled with a colorful blend of multigrain orzo, red quinoa, barley, lentils, multicolored carrots, broccoli, red peppers and sharp cheddar cheese.  Slow roasted tomato packed with ancient grains – brown & red rice, red quinoa, black barley, shredded kale and fresh mozzarella; topped with a drizzle of balsamic reduction.
  • Course 3: Zucchini Lasagna –  Layered with a delicate ricotta, marinara, spices, and spinach.
  • Course 4: Spice Cake & Vanilla Bean Ice Cream – Bursting with an array of fall flavors including cloves, nutmeg, allspice, and cinnamon. Accompanied by vanilla bean ice cream (vegetarian) or creamy banana ice cream (vegan).
  • *Soup is dairy free and all courses are nut free.

 

Vegan Dinner Menu!

We’ve heard you! In light of feedback from individuals asking for a vegan option for the dinner, we will provide an adapted version of the menu listed above in order to offer a vegan four-course option as well! During the check-out process of your ticket purchase, please indicate whether the vegetarian or vegan dinner option is preferred for each ticket holder. 

Tickets are $50 for members and $60 for nonmembers. Learn more about becoming a member.

Enhance this already divine culinary experience with a Wine Pairing! Each course will be paired with a different glass of wine, adding layers of complexity to each dish! Dinner + Wine Pairing for members is $90, and Dinner + Wine Pairing for non-members is $100.00.
