Christiane Dolores, along with several guest artists, will perform an original performance piece illustrating the phrase, “Everything is Fine.” This is a phrase that is typically seen as an utterance by women, however any person who is treated as insignificant or peripheral can find these three words leaving their lips. This ethos is rooted in American culture that believes any obstacle can be overcome with “pull yourself up by the boot-straps” “can do” positivity, dismissing the systemic issue of inequity that creates the very problems that disrupt the lives of so many. Each Artist will write their authentic answer to the question, “How are you?,” while engaging in their “simple pleasures.” This durational performance piece challenges the idea of a return to a “new normal” when that normal clearly wasn’t working.
