SmART Chat – Benevolent Bequest

  • Time: 7:00pm–8:00pm

Join Judy O’Toole, The Richard M. Scaife Director/CEO, for a gallery walk through the exhibition A Collector’s Passion: Selections form the Richard M. Scaife Collection illuminating the top choices from the round-robin selection process between the Brandywine River Museum and The Westmoreland. Mr. Scaife’s will designated these two museums to receive his American art collection but left it up to them to divide it. Hear about some of the memorable pieces with national and regional connection and how they fill important gaps in The Westmoreland’s existing collections.

Judith Hansen O’Toole has been Director/CEO of The Westmoreland Museum of American Art since 1993.  She attended the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, the University of Minnesota and holds an M.A. in art history from The Pennsylvania State University.  O’Toole is an expert and author in the field of 19th and 20th American art and is a regular speaker at such venues as Sotheby’s, New York; The National Gallery, Washington, D.C.; the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C.; the College Art Association; the Chicago Art Institute; and the Detroit Institute of Art. In response to her leadership and community orientation, The Westmoreland was the subject of a PBS Visionaries TV Documentary in 2000. O’Toole has received many awards including, most recently, the Business Women First Award, Pittsburgh Business Times (2013).
