Speed Date the Art & SweetArt Dance: FAQs
Q: So, is this an event for singles only?
A: No. But, singles are of course very welcome to attend, and we hope they do.
Q: Who can come to the event?
A: Anyone: Singles, couples, married, unmarried, groups of friends, men, women, other, locals, out of towners, art lovers, art novices, art curious, fun lovers… and YOU!
Q: What is the age limit?
A: Well, we will be serving alcohol, so we suggest that folks over 18 might be a good idea. You’ll need an ID to prove you are over 21 to drink.
Q: So, is this event a way for me to speed date, meet, hook up with, find romance or love with another person?
A: No. The focus of the event is to meet and fall in love with the Museum and our art. We thought it would be fun to offer a playful way to do this during Valentine’s week. As with any party, you will probably meet new people, but, of course, we cannot promise that you will find the love of your life. We do however, hope to see love blossom between you and the art, and we’d love this to be the beginning of a long-term relationship between you and the Museum. Once you’ve had the opportunity to see how much fun you can have here while getting a little taste of the art, we hope you’ll keep coming back for more. Now, that’s romantic!
Q: How exactly does the speed dating work? Who/what will I be speed dating?
A: Great question. You might have noticed that the StageRight! adult players are part of the event. These fabulous folks have agreed to help bring the art alive for you so that you can interact, ask questions and maybe learn a little more about the painting and the artist (ok, to be honest, we can’t promise you an art history lesson, but we do promise some insights and plenty of improv and hilarity as they react to the questions you ask). We’ve selected 10 artworks to come alive, and you’ll have a minute or two to become intrigued enough to think about a future date with the collection (Shameless plug! May we boldly suggest that a Museum Mutiny Tour or a Pop-Up Studio might be a great way to come back and experience more of the art in a fun and interactive way? You can learn more about these adult programs at the event or on our website).
Q: What else will going on at the event?
A: Lots and lots of other fun stuff that offer further opportunities to spend some time in the Museum falling in love with our art: voting for your favorite with a heart, taking a photo of another favorite inside a hand heart and posting it to our Instagram for display on the screen in the lobby, a love the art scavenger hunt, heart button making, photo ops with a heart filled backdrop, and sweet, sweet 80s tunes to dance to.
