Making The Westmoreland Museum of American Art
To celebrate the reopening of The New Westmoreland after our major renovation and expansion, this exhibition of architectural drawings, models, photographs and renderings in the new Robertshaw Gallery on the first floor describes the design process involved in creating the existing building from its early origins to the present.
The exhibition includes Phillip Johnson’s 1957 proposed design; The 1954 Sorber and Hoone design proposal, as well as their subsequent design that resulted in the former 1959 building interior and exterior; the 1968 west wing addition by Deeter Ritchey Sippel Architects and their proposed but never completed east wing addition; the 1999 interior renovation by The Design Alliance; and the Ennead Architect’s design for the current transformation.
