Pop-Up Exhibition Scott Hunter
Scott Hunter’s painting style is rooted in tradition, drawn from life and constructed with imagination. His paintings are about the arrangement of textures, colors and shapes. Thriving on the anxiety of persistence in solving problems he has created for himself, Hunter trusts that the language of his brushstrokes, scratches, drips and conversations of color can be coaxed in a certain direction. The destination of which is an end that exists in enough harmony to simply continue to be.
Working in both a representational and non-representational manner, Hunter produces two distinct bodies of work, both of which evoke a specific place or memory. His compositions resonate with emotional presence and reward a viewers’ repeated and sustained attention.
Hunter studied painting and art history at Boston University, graduating in 1993 after a classically structured education based on intensive studio training and drawing from life. His related experience includes theatrical set design, illustration, commissioned portraits and wall murals. The artist lives and works in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is represented in many private and public collections.
