Aria in Glass and Bloom Inspiration Statement
Imagined as a collaboration across disciplines, Aria in Glass and Bloom envisions a gown that Dale Chihuly might have designed for Christine Daaé in The Phantom of the Opera. The gown is inspired by the cascading brilliance of a Chihuly chandelier, a form that shimmers with movement, drama, and light. Natural elements, silks, taffeta, organza, ribbons, and sparkling features replace Chihuly’s glass, transforming the materials into a sculptural garment. This piece blurs boundaries at the intersection of costume, sculpture and floral installation.
