Greensburg ArtsWalk Announces Packed Schedule of Happenings, Performances, Exhibitions and More

GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania (April 4, 2018) – Painters, musicians, dancers and other artists will take to the streets of downtown Greensburg on Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 11am-5pm for the inaugural Greensburg ArtsWalk, an event highlighting the thriving visual and performing arts community in the city.
Presented by The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Seton Hill University, The Westmoreland Cultural Trust and Think Greensburg, ArtsWalk will be a day packed with happenings, performances, exhibitions and art activities in indoor and outdoor locations throughout downtown.
Before setting on their way, ArtsWalk participants can pick up a map with a full schedule of events at the Courthouse or the Museum. A PDF map with the schedule can also be found at thewestmoreland.org/artswalk.
Featured events and activities include:

  • The Museum, in addition to having free admission that day, has organized six Happenings inspired by the artworks featured at four Art Happens locations throughout downtown. At the Museum loading dock, Erik Greenawalt (aka the Chalking Dad) will complete a chalk art reproduction of Rembrandt Peale’s Portrait of George Washington, and Phat Man Dee and Liz Berlin will perform a rock/jazz concert with songs from their upcoming release, Social Justice Disco. Dancers from FitnessEnvi and local rock funk band Kaelber will each hold performances inspired by Anthony DeBarnardin-Burghet’s Sun Bath Tat is Hot. The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra String Quartet will play patriotic tunes at City Hall, and the Museum’s Education Department will join forces with teachers from local school districts to hold a puppet making activity and parades at St. Clair Park. Also, several local food trucks will be stationed outside of the Museum’s North entrance on Academy Hill Place, which will be closed to vehicular traffic from 11am-5pm.
  • The Westmoreland Cultural Trust’s Incubator for the Arts at 102 and 108 North Main Street will have open studios for seven artists throughout the day. Plus, Incubator artist Nick Silvis will exhibit his show Hushed at Fotorecord Print Center and Harris Gallery at Seton Hill Arts Center.
  • The Trust’s Art in the Alley will have kick-off performances by Stage Right! Sensations and Susan Yadamec Dancers, followed by music performances on the loading dock by Rachel Leigh, Victoria Morgan Band and The Moment. The Alley will also host live painting demonstrations, a children’s activity with Westmoreland Arts & Heritage Festival, a mosaic art activity with Pottery Playhouse and more.
  • Seton Hill Arts Center will hold open studios for visitors to see student work in progress, senior art exhibitions and 3D printing demonstrations. The Art Hive will have an interactive art making opportunity, and the Student Art Therapy Association and Students in the Arts will hold an artwork sale from 12-4pm. Plus, from 2-4pm, visitors can choose between viewing a hot metal foundry pour or raku firing.
  • DV8 Espresso Bar & Gallery’s featured exhibition will be Greensburg painter Maggie Nemetz’s show titled Quotidian Life. In the espresso bar, local artists exhibiting work will include Sandy Mears, Benjamin Kokoska, Charles Dangelo, Alex Concannon, Kimberly Rentier, Susan Hoak, Francis DeFabo and Mary Briggs.
  • At Greensburg Hempfield Area Library, participants can bring or borrow a book to participate in a Read-a-Thon on the library’s porch beginning at noon.
  • The Greensburg YMCA will offer free community access to Les Mills classes between 8am-1pm, as well as waive the joiner’s fee for new members.
