Brenda Stumpf: Cavomyrt
Brenda Stumpf’s Cavomyrt, derived from the phrase ‘cave of my heart,’ consists of elaborate wall assemblages that function as enchanted reliquaries to love, innocence and intimacy. These works have been created using items such as removed antique wallpaper, childhood dresses, objects and toys from her youth, plastic flowers, a rusted out wheel barrel, chandelier pieces, piano wire, sound reels and film negatives. The pieces are encapsulated with layers of sand dusted mediums where they’ve become almost crystalline and calcified. The context of the work evokes deep personal, mythic and archetypal associations, and the physical construction of the art showcases both industriousness and opulence.
