Sunday Fun Day: Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Celebration

Fun event for the whole family!

10am-3pm

Celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage at The Westmoreland with a day of cultural discovery and creativity. Enjoy performances by Tuika’s Polynesian Island Magic, the Xiaobo Waist Drum Dance Group, and the OCA Performance Ensemble.

Explore hands-on activities for all ages, including a cultural experience where you’ll receive a flower and learn how to wear it according to Hawaiian traditions. Contribute to a community wish tree, try Chinese calligraphy, and create reflective art in our outdoor Zen garden.

10am–3pm (Ongoing Activities)
  • Cultural Cuisine: Enjoy food from local vendors, including Asian-inspired cuisine.
  • Bloom of Blessing Wish Trees: Inspired by Hawaiian tradition, write a wish or blessing and tie it to the tree, honoring the power of mana (spiritual energy).
  • Adornment Station: Receive a flower and discover the meaning of Hawaiian adornment while learning how to wear it.
  • Outdoor Zen Garden: Experience this Japanese tradition by creating a simple, meditative design using sand, gravel, and stones.
Scheduled Events 
  • 11–11:30am – The OCA Performance Ensemble 
    Kick off the day with a dynamic cultural performance.
  • 12–12:30pm – Tuika’s Polynesian Island Magic Performance 
    Enjoy an exciting showcase of Polynesian music, dance, and cultural storytelling.
  • 12–2pm Chinese Calligraphy Station
    Discover the art of Chinese calligraphy and take home a personalized design created just for you.
  • 1:30–2pm – Tuika’s Polynesian Island Magic Performance 
    Catch a second vibrant performance filled with Polynesian music, dance, and cultural magic.
  • 2–3pm – Xiaobo Waist Drum Dance Group
    Experience a high-energy cultural showcase featuring traditional waist drum dance and special guest performers.
