Pop-Up Exhibition Sue Pollins, Doreen Currie, and Mike McSorley

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Sue Pollins received her B.S. in painting from the College of Architecture and Design, University of Michigan. A frequent instructor, juror, lecturer and demonstrator, she has taught art in Southfield, Michigan Public Schools; continuing education programs at Seton Hill University, Penn State University and Westmoreland County Community College; as well as classes at the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, Touchstone Center for Crafts, Alex Fletcher Memorial Art Center and other art organizations throughout southwestern Pennsylvania.

Pollins’ work has been shown in exhibitions throughout the region including the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society’s Annual, Pittsburgh Watercolor Societies Aqueous Open, Three Rivers Arts Festivals, Westmoreland Nationals and Southwest Pennsylvania Juried Regionals. Her work is found in private and corporate collections in addition to public collections such as the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art and the Westmoreland Museum of American Art. She has won many awards including the Greensburg Area Cultural Council “Artist of the Year” in 1999 and Touchstone’s “Artist of the Year” in 2009.

Doreen Currie, a native of Latrobe, PA, studied art and design at Seton Hill University. As a child, she was always asking her parents to help her take her easel and paints outside, well before she knew the French term “plein air” painting, or painting in the open air.
Currie’s paintings are in both private and corporate collections and she has won many awards including the “Award in Oil Painting” from the 2011 Mr. Fred Rogers Juried Exhibition at Latrobe Art Center.

Mike McSorley graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1979 with a degree in Fine Art, supplementing this education with classes and workshops with local and national artists. With a studio in North Point Breeze, McSorley’s years as an art handler have provided the added benefit of seeing a wide variety of work in both private and museum collections, allowing for a unique perspective that guides the creative process.

McSorley has shown in both regional and national group shows, as well solo shows, and has won some awards. Most recent was third place in the Hoyt Regional, juried by Louis Zona.
