GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania (Friday, October 6, 2017) – Collection 273, a community-sourced photography series initiated by the Downtown Greensburg Project in collaboration with the people of Greensburg, will be exhibited in The Westmoreland Museum of American Art’s Robertshaw Gallery from October 13 through November 26, 2017.
As a photography project, Collection 273 has captured images of life in Downtown Greensburg over the course of the first 273 days in 2017. The project prompted community members to “show us your Greensburg” by submitting photographs of their experience in the city, along with a brief story, via social media using #collection273. The Downtown Greensburg Project then selected one submission to be featured every day from January 1 through September 30 on the Collection 273 Instagram account. The exhibition at The Westmoreland will feature these 273 photographs.
Jessica Hickey, founder of the Downtown Greensburg Project, said, “This has been a wonderful collaboration with the Greensburg community to see the city through their eyes. It’s really exciting for everyone who was featured to say that they had their photos exhibited at a nationally known museum.”
“In order to delve deeper into the images shared with us by the Greensburg community, we have included a monitor in the gallery to display the stories behind these 273 photographs,” said Barbara Jones, Chief Curator of The Westmoreland. “In addition, to continue this spirit of community, we invite visitors to bring in their own photographs of Greensburg and share their stories with us.”
An opening reception for Collection 273 will be held on Friday, October 13 from 5-7pm during Art on Tap, The Westmoreland’s monthly happy hour. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling 1.888.71TICKETS.
