Engaging programs. From our family to yours.

The Westmoreland invites families to dive right in and experience American art. We offer a wealth of hands-on and virtual programs created to delight, inspire and engage all ages.

The Museum’s studio art classes, for children ages 7-10, are offered once a month on Saturday mornings. These classes are designed to ignite creative experimentation while teaching fundamental art techniques. Want to learn more? Contact the Education Department at 724.837.1500 x146 or education@thewestmoreland.org.

On the first Sunday of every month, The Westmoreland has a FREE themed Community Day! These Community Days provide activities for everyone who wants to experience the Museum in a fast-paced and fun-filled way. The galleries and Museum spaces will be filled with everything from art-making activities, live music, and more–all presented in a COVID safe format. Every month will be different, but always a lively, experience!

Explore the galleries with your family and connect with artworks in a new way with our In-gallery Activity Guides and create works of art at home with a Take-home Art Kit!

The in-gallery activities will encourage you and your family to find out some facts about the artwork and artist, observe details, and turn looking into learning. The take-home kits extend your Museum visit and allow your child to connect to their inner artist at home with art activities and supplies.

Each month this spring (April, May and June), we will offer two new themed In-gallery Activity Guides and Take-home Art Kits featuring different artworks and activities. The June guide and kit themes are Create Community and Tell Truths. Centered around these themes, you’ll have fun exploring works in The Westmoreland’s collection with your child. Example of a finished Highlight History take-home kit below:

The In-gallery Activity Guides and Take-home Art Kits are best suited for children ages 4-10 years old, but offer fun for the whole family.
