The Westmoreland Museum of American Art to Open New Café
GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania (March 14, 2019) – On Sat., March 30, The Westmoreland Museum of American Art opens Café Marchand. A partnership with French Express, the café will offer a rotating menu of hot soups, quiches, freshly prepared sandwiches and salads, pastries, and gourmet grab-and-go snacks, plus coffee, wine and Pennsylvania craft beers, along with a variety of other craft beverages.
French Express, located in Latrobe, is influenced by the global experiences of its owners and dedicated to creating delicious, healthy alternatives to typical fast and pre-packaged foods. Chefs Christophe Fichet and Nicolas Grunewald have developed a mouth watering menu for Café Marchand including free-range chicken salad on croissant, smoked salmon on brioche, and arugula salad with thyme-roasted onions and tomatoes, as well as an array of desserts, including limoncello cream cake, tiramisu, fruit clafoutis, and macarons.
The café will be nestled in The Westmoreland’s gift shop, with interior design by artist Tadao Arimoto, who is also designing a new welcome desk for the lobby. After ordering, guests can find seating throughout the first floor and dine with spectacular views of downtown Greensburg.
“We’ve named the café in honor of Mary Marchand Woods, whose generous bequest established the Westmoreland in 1959,” says Anne Kraybill, the Richard M. Scaife Director and CEO of The Westmoreland. “She was a long-time Greensburg resident who wanted her community to have an important cultural institution. Food is culture, so we could not think of a more appropriate way to honor her memory.”
