The Westmoreland Announces Free Virtual Summer Art Camps

GREENSBURG, PA (May 21, 2020) – The Westmoreland Museum of American Art will be offering four weeks of virtual art camps this summer, designed for children ages seven to ten. The camps will take place on the weeks of Monday, June 22, Monday, June 29, Monday, July 20 and Monday, August 3. Thanks to generous support provided by Art Bridges, there will be no registration cost for the camps and all supplies will be included.
Using a virtual platform, the camps will be held Monday through Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30am and will feature a different art activity each day led by Studio Programs Coordinator Michael Carsone. One may choose to participate in all four days or select specific days of the week. All supplies for the activities will be provided at no charge and sent to participants via mail in advance of the camp.
Registration is now open, and the deadline for registration is two weeks prior to each camp.
While the camps are open to anyone on a first come first served basis, the Museum is also collaborating with CASA of Westmoreland and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Laurel Region to share this opportunity with families served by each of these organizations.
“The Museum is delighted to be able to offer these mini art camp experiences to children, despite ongoing social distancing. The virtual format for engaging our audiences is very new to us, and we hope that these short and creative experiences will provide children and their parents with a great way to engage with art together. I’m particularly grateful to Michael Carsone, our Studio Programs Coordinator, who has invested so much time, energy and passion into distilling our originally planned art camps into these fun daily bite sized art experiences. Thanks also to his kids who have helped with testing out all of the projects,” stated Joan McGarry, Director of Education and Visitor Engagement.
